Diplodocus carnegii - The Jurassic Giant

Diplodocus carnegii is one of the most iconic dinosaurs of the Late Jurassic period. With its long neck and tail, it is often regarded as one of the largest dinosaurs ever to have roamed the Earth.

Diplodocus carnegii lived approximately 154 to 152 million years ago, in what is now North America. They were herbivores and primarily fed on low-lying plants and ferns.

This dinosaur was named in honor of Andrew Carnegie, an industrialist and philanthropist who funded numerous paleontological expeditions in the late 19th century.

Diplodocus carnegii had a massive yet relatively lightweight body, allowing it to move on all fours. Despite its large size, it was likely capable of surprising speeds.

Fossils of Diplodocus carnegii were first discovered in Colorado in 1877. Since then, many other specimens have been unearthed in various regions of North America.

Scientists estimate that Diplodocus carnegii measured approximately 25 to 30 meters in length and weighed between 10 and 16 tonnes. Its extraordinarily long neck consisted of about 15 cervical vertebrae.
